February 29th is fast approaching. This means the grand expansion opening of 12 new acres for our Florida location. Dinosaurs are moving in at the last minute. Pictured below are some of the new dinosaur that are in the process of making Dinosaur World their home.
Five “live” dinosaurs
Word from the Florida expansion is that the animatronic dinosaur exhibit is looking great! Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, Pterodactyl and of course T-Rex will be ready by Feb 29th! This will be one excellent exhibit in the Prehistoric Museum.

Here are some scenes from the Florida expansion. The animatronic dinosaurs in the Prehistoric Museum will be open Feb 29th. Pictured below is the new entryway, one of the two new playgrounds and a new dinosaur – Acrocanthosaurus. With 12 new acres, that’s plenty of room for new dinosaurs!
Dinosaur World Florida opens 12 new acres with animatronic dinosaur museum display on Feb 29
Dinosaur World in Plant City, Florida broke ground with a major new expansion in November of 2010. The unveiling of this new expansion will be on Wednesday, February 29th at 10:00 am.
The project includes a 12 acres expansion of everything dinosaur.
The highlight of the expansion is a new 22,000 square foot Prehistoric Museum housing an animatronics display. The over 150 life size dinosaurs were impressive in the past. And now with the new “live” exhibit scene, visitors can expect even more. Five animatronic dinosaurs have moved into Dinosaur World including Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, Pterodactyl and of course T-Rex.
In addition to the new indoor Prehistoric Museum, the expansion covers even more prehistoric ground. Two new dinosaur themed playgrounds were added. A 5,000 square foot gift shop offering everything from stuffed dinosaurs to a huge selection of dinosaur books and educational items is now open. The Fossil Dig was a perennial favorite to guests because they could sift through sand in search of authentic fossils to take home. Now there is a new, larger fossil dig area with a paleontological feel about it. And of course new dinosaurs have moved in along the over one mile walk through the lush Florida landscape.
If you’ve visited in the past, you’ll notice the difference as soon as you approach. You’ll have to drive through huge new arches stacked with dinosaurs transporting you into a prehistoric journey into the past. Through these arches is an impressive new entry and plenty of new parking to accommodate the growing number of visitors and buses for educational groups.
Dinosaur World has remained open during the expansion with the new gift shop, playground and fossil dig already open to guests. The Prehistoric Museum housing the animatronics display has never been seen before. Other exhibits include the Dinosaur Walk, Fossil Dig, Boneyard, Prehistoric Museum with animatronics dinosaurs, Movie Cave, Carnivore Boardwalk, Deinonychus Island, playground, picnic area, gift shop and now, plenty of new dinosaurs

12 New Dinosaurs in Texas
Pictured above are the newest additions to the Maiasaurus family at Dinosaur World in Glen Rose, Texas. Maiasaurus actually means “Good Mother Lizard”, so it is fitting that the newest additions go to this family that has now grown by two babies and two juveniles.
The Dinosaur Walk at the outdoor dinosaur museum is about a mile long, so there is plenty of room for new additions to the already 100 plus dinosaurs along the path.
In addition to the Maiasaurus dinosaurs, the Igunodon family also added two new juveniles to the family. And, the Chasmosaurus also now has two juveniles and four babies.
One of the things that makes the Dinosaur World experience so unique is the grouping of dinosaurs in herds the way they would have been found in nature. Because of this, most of the new Texas dinosaurs come in the form of baby dinosaurs or juveniles.
The Texas location is the newest of the three Dinosaur Worlds. And growth continues to be seen in all. In addition to the Texas additions, the Plant City Florida Dinosaur World is getting a major expansion with twelve new acres. Kentucky will soon follow with major “face-lifts” on existing dinosaurs.
New fossils also part of addition
New authentic fossils have also been added to the indoor prehistoric museum at Dinosaur World including; a Mosasaurus neck vertebra, Mammoth Rib bone, Mammoth Tooth and a piece of a Mammoth Tusk.

Here’s how the dinosaurs look today at our Kentucky location. It’s a neat look in the winter. We’re always open, so come visit. If snow isn’t your thing, just wait until this weekend when it will be sunny and much warmer.
